Fewer Michigan 3rd graders could be held back for reading

A new Education Policy Innovation Collaborative report finds that due to low reading scores, roughly 5.6% of third graders in Michigan could be required to repeat third grade. This percentage is down from last year, but with the retention component repleaded in 2023, this is the final group of students eligible to be held back under Michigan’s Read by Grade Three Law.
