MSU expert says Michigan’s record school funding doesn’t tell the full story

Michigan leaders have celebrated what they describe as record funding for K-12 schools, including free breakfast and lunch across Michigan school districts, extended funding for literacy initiatives and a base foundation allowance that will reach $10,300 per student during the 2026-2027 school year.
But one Michigan State University education expert is warning that the headlines might lose sight of the larger picture, saying that there is more behind the scenes than people realize when it comes to education funding and policy.
