Amy Cummings is an education policy doctoral student at Michigan State University (MSU) and an Institute of Education Sciences fellow. She studies early literacy policies and their implementation and effect on children, and her work is aimed at ensuring students have equitable access to literacy supports in the early years. As a graduate research assistant at the Education Policy Innovation Collaborative, she researches the implementation and effectiveness of Michigan’s early literacy policy, Read by Grade Three. Prior to beginning her studies at MSU, Amy worked at the American Enterprise Institute and taught high school social studies. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri and a master’s in cognitive science in education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
