Erek Kooyman

Erek Kooyman is a dual-track doctoral student in Education Policy and K-12 Educational Administration at Michigan State University. His research interests include teacher mobility, educational leadership, and school enrollment patterns in the context of urban education. He previously worked in teacher education at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, instructing courses in mathematics pedagogy, bilingual education and social foundations of education. Erek worked for over a decade in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, serving as a bilingual (Spanish) middle school math teacher in a two-way language immersion program and subsequently as a principal of a Title I traditional public elementary school. Erek holds State of Michigan certifications and endorsements in elementary education, social studies, secondary mathematics, bilingual education, and K-12 administration.

 

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
