Katie Shanahan is a doctoral student in Education Policy at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include multilingual learner students,  grow your own policy and programs, and equity in state and federal education policy. At EPIC, she supports qualitative research on grow your own teacher initiatives. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked on multilingual learner assessment at WIDA at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, and she was a classroom teacher for multilingual learners. She has bachelor’s degrees in international education policy and Portuguese from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in education from Washington University in St. Louis.

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
