Report: Michigan students growing academically at a slower pace than before pandemic

According to a new report from Michigan State University, K-8 students in the state showed growth in math and reading tests from fall 2020 to fall 2021, but students are growing at a slower pace compared with pre-pandemic numbers, and there is a substantial portion of students who showed no growth at all.

The report examines student benchmark testing, which is conducted periodically throughout the school year in public district and charter schools in Michigan. The type of benchmark test, taken by students in the fall of 2020, spring of 2021 and fall of 2021, varies depending on the district, but many districts use the same brand of test.
