TeachMichigan: A big bet on Michigan’s teachers and leaders

What sets TeachMichigan apart is its emphasis on data, research and continuously improving the strategy along the way. We partnered with Michigan State University’s Education Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC) to evaluate our impact. Here’s what we’ve learned so far:

Nearly 50% of participants considered leaving the profession before TeachMichigan. Ninety-five percent have remained in their schools.

Educators rate TeachMichigan’s professional learning as far more valuable than traditional options.

Many fellows use their stipends to cover basic needs, reduce second jobs, and focus more fully on their students.

While the full impact on student outcomes will take time to measure, early signs are strong— absenteeism and discipline are down, while academic scores are rising. The reason is simple: When we invest in educators, they invest it right back – in their students, in their classrooms, and in Michigan’s future.

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
