Gender, Bias, and Academia
This session will explore the impact of gender on individual experiences in academia. Due to the way in which society typically perceives gender roles, gender identity will impact the way in which people in academia navigate their studies and careers. How are those of different genders perceived by their peers and by those in positions of power? How do gender roles impact the achievement of a work/life balance? What unique challenges do those of different gender identities face? Panelists will offer a variety of perspectives, including those of administrators, professors, mentors/advisers, and students. Those in the audience will be invited to ask questions and to share their own experiences.
