House GOP bill strips state pandemic powers, limits when locals can issue COVID-19 orders

The article highlights a new bill filed which would prohibit local health departments from issuing any order canceling in-person classes or sporting events unless infection, testing rates and other thresholds set by the Legislature were met. Lawmakers also would prevent those leaders from considering potentially egregious outbreaks at nursing homes, jails or other similar facilities when weighing bans on classes or sports cites Education Policy Innovation Collaborative research statistics.
