How Michigan schools are spending $6 billion in federal COVID relief

Congress approved $189 billion for the nation’s K-12 schools over three years from the Elementary Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) and Governors’ Emergency Education Relief funds. Michigan was awarded about $6.1 billion over three years. The money can be used to support safe, in-person instruction, to recover learning loss during the pandemic, or to support the academic, social and emotional needs of students.
