Michigan schools fear choices between funding, COVID shutdowns

Michigan lawmakers have made it more difficult for schools to move classes online in the upcoming year, spurring worries that administrators might have to decide between preserving funding and child safety. School leaders are wondering how to handle the strict policies — mandates that were eased because of the pandemic last school year — if Michigan faces the anticipated fourth surge in infections, or if there are local outbreaks that force large swaths of students to quarantine at home.
