David Knight

David Knight is an assistant professor of education finance and policy at the University of Washington College of Education. His research focuses on the economics of education and school resource allocation. His work emphasizes distributive justice, racial/ethnic and socioeconomic equity, and policies aimed at reducing inequality to address longstanding racial and income-based disparities in educational opportunity. David’s research is published in a wide range of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Educational Researcher, and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis as well as public media outlets such as The Hill, Houston Chronicle, and Seattle Times. He has received research funding from federal agencies and national foundations including the National Science Foundation, the Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences, the William T. Grant Foundation, and the Lyle Spencer Foundation.

David holds a Ph.D. in educational policy and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Southern California. He earned a master’s degree in economics education and bachelor’s degrees in economics and anthropology from the University of Kansas. He previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at El Paso College of Education and as the Director of the Center for Education Research and Policy Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso.

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
