Erica Harbatkin

Erica Harbatkin is an Assistant Professor of Education Policy and Evaluation at Florida State University. Her research uses advanced quantitative methods to examine topics related to low-performing schools, school turnaround and improvement, teacher policy, and educational equity with an emphasis on the role of public policy in shaping student outcomes. Her work has been published in Economics of Education Review, Journal of Research in Educational Effectiveness, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Educational Policy, Leadership and Policy in Schools, and others.

Erica has a Ph.D. in education policy with a graduate minor in quantitative methods from Vanderbilt University, where her dissertation examined low-performing schools, school turnaround, and leadership for school reform. She has a Master’s in Public Policy from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at George Washington University and a bachelor’s in print and multimedia journalism from Emerson College. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as an education policy researcher at SRI International, a government consultant at ICF International, and a newspaper reporter in New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and North Carolina.

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
