Jason Burns

Research Specialist

 

Jason Burns, PhD, is a research specialist at the Education Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC) in Lansing, Michigan. In this role, he leads and supports EPIC’s portfolio of research focused on Michigan’s teacher workforce. Jason also collaborates with other researchers on a range of reports and academic papers. Prior to joining EPIC, he was an assistant professor at Seton Hall University in New Jersey and a high school social studies teacher in Maryland. Jason brings teaching experience and expertise in a range of research methodologies to his work at EPIC. His research interests include school accountability and turnaround, decision-making, and factors that shape students’ access to high quality teachers. He holds a PhD in educational policy from Michigan State University, a master’s in secondary social studies education from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, and a bachelor’s in history from Kent State University in Ohio..

EPIC works with state and district partners to create a targeted research agenda to learn which reform strategies are most effective, where, when and for whom.
