Josep Maria Nadal Fernandez
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow: Read by Grade Three
Josep Nadal-Fernandez research interests lie in the economics of education and labor economics, specializing in the interaction between teacher labor markets and educational outcomes. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His dissertation analyzed teacher labor market reforms affecting teacher job protection, teacher retirement, and instructional time. His analysis underscored the interplay between school competition and student socioeconomic status to understand the heterogenous teacher labor market effects of these reforms. He also holds a Master’s in Economics and Policy Analysis from DePaul University, obtained through a Fulbright grant. As part of his work with EPIC, Dr. Nadal-Fernandez will join the team evaluating Michigan’s Read by Grade Three law.
